BitVentures Enters Crypto Mining Shortly After Nasdaq Rebrand

BitVentures Limited has made its first move into cryptocurrency mining, launching a new digital assets business less than two weeks after rebranding to emphasize its blockchain-focused strategy. The Hong Kong–based technology firm disclosed that it has acquired multiple fleets of mining hardware. The equipment will be used to mine Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin. The acquisition includes approximately 0.5 megawatts of power capacity hosted across data centers in the United States, with deployment of the mining rigs expected to begin later this month. BitVentures said the mining operation will serve as the foundation of its broader digital assets strategy. The company also plans to expand into other blockchain-related activities, such as staking and node operations, though no further details or timelines were provided.

Bitfarms Exits Latin America After $30M Paraguay Facility Sale

Bitcoin mining company Bitfarms announced a full exit from the Latin American market following the $30 million sale of its 70-megawatt facility in Paso Pe, Paraguay. The company said it reached an agreement with Sympatheia Power Fund, which will acquire the local subsidiary holding the assets. Under the deal, Bitfarms will receive $9 million in cash in the first quarter of 2026, with an additional $21 million paid over the following 10 months. CEO Ben Gagnon said the transaction will make Bitfarms’ energy operations “100% North American.” The company plans to reinvest proceeds into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. Bitfarms currently has 430 MW under development in the United States and a multi-year North American expansion plan totaling 2.1 gigawatts.

Russia Proposes Criminal Penalties for Unregistered Crypto Miners

Russia has introduced a draft bill aimed at cracking down on unregistered cryptocurrency mining, signaling a tougher regulatory stance on illegal mining activities. The proposal, published by the Ministry of Justice, follows concerns raised by the country’s finance minister over widespread unauthorized mining operations. Under the draft amendments to the Criminal Code, illegal crypto mining could result in fines of up to 1.5 million rubles (around $19,000) and up to two years of forced labor. In cases involving large profits, penalties may increase to as much as five years in prison, 480 hours of forced labor, and fines reaching 2.5 million rubles. If illegal mining is carried out by an unregistered organized group and generates significant profits, offenders could face up to five years of imprisonment or forced labor, highlighting Russia’s intensified enforcement approach.

Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Ends 2025 at Record Level, Set to Rise in January

Bitcoin’s mining difficulty recorded its final adjustment of 2025, rising slightly to 148.2 trillion, reflecting continued strength in network computing power. Mining difficulty measures how hard it is to add a new block to the blockchain and plays a key role in maintaining network security and decentralization. According to CoinWarz, the next difficulty adjustment is expected around January 8, 2026, at block height 931,392, with difficulty forecast to increase further to about 149 trillion. At present, average block times are approximately 9.95 minutes, slightly faster than Bitcoin’s 10-minute target. This suggests upward pressure on difficulty, which could further compress miner margins while signaling sustained network activity.
